Abstract

897,595. Copying documents. RITZERFELD, W., and RITZERFELD, G. March 7, 1960 [March 13, 1959], No. 4957/60. Addition to 837,818. Class 100(2) On a rotary duplicating machine for printing on copy sheets from selected lines or sections of a master sheet supported on a printing drum by controlling the co-operation between the drum and a counter-pressure roller, said co-operation being controlled by a sensing device in accordance with markings on the master sheet, the sensing means is electronically operated, so that the markings may be black and white or coloured marks, or holes. The master sheet 1, Figs. 2 and 3, secured to the drum 4, is provided with marks 136 corresponding to the lines of text and arranged in circumferential columns, each column in turn being sensed, one column per drum revolution, by a photo-electric cell 135 which is stepped axially by a pawl and ratchet mechanism 45, 50, 51 operated by a cam 49 on the drum shaft 21. A rotary contact arm 140a moving synchronously with the drum is provided with two contact elements 144, 151 to connect successively outer stationary contacts T with an inner slip ring 141 and inner stationary contacts Z with an outer slip ring 141, the contacts corresponding to lines of text. When the arm reaches a contact T, a circuit is conditioned to a thyraton tube 142, and if at this time a mark 136 is sensed, the tube is ignited and a corresponding relay 145 energized to close contacts 146, 147, 148. The contacts 146 close a relay holding circuit, the contacts 147 illuminate a lamp 147a, and the contacts 148 condition a circuit to an electromagnet 31 controlling the counter-pressure roller through toggle linkage. When the selected line reaches the printing position, the arm 140a reaches the corresponding contact Z and completes the curve to the magnet. After each revolution of the drum, a cam 152 opens a switch 149 to release all energized relays. Any relay can be energized manually by a lug Ta.
