Abstract
897,025. Wire tensioning. DAVIES, E. A. Feb. 11, 1960 [Feb. 11, 1959], No. 4785/59. Class 45. [Also in Group XXX]. A guide rope 15 is tensioned and supported from girders 4 of pit headgear by springs 17, 18, having abutments adjustable by nuts 27 on a respective spindle 24. The lower end of each spring rests on a respective abutment 14 carried by a girder 8 bearing on the girders 4. The lower end of each spindle 24 has a projection 28 formed with a knife edge which engages an aperture in a bridge member 30 through a hole in which the rope 15 freely passes. The member 30 carries a wedging mechanism for gripping the rope 15. The adjustment of each spring is indicated by the position of a flange 41 against a scale 40. As shown, there are two guide ropes 15, 16, and two respective pairs of springs 17, 18.
