Abstract

896,029. Scraper conveyers; shoots. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Nov. 21, 1960 [Nov. 27, 1959], No. 40337/59. Class 78 (1). In a fuel feeding apparatus comprising a shoot 61 leading downwards from a hopper 56 to a scraper conveyer for feeding the fuel to a furnace 69, the conveyer scrapers are arranged to contact a plate 65 hinged at its upper end 66 so that each scraper rocks the plate inwardly into the shoot to loosen and agitate the fuel therein, and then releases the plate to allow the loosened fuel to fall freely on to the conveyer. A shut-off valve 58 is also provided in the shoot. The conveyer scrapers 10 are of stepped form (see Fig. 2) connected between a pair of endless chains 6, 8 passing over driving and tensioning sprocket - wheels 18, 16, respectively. The scrapers feed the fuel over an upper plate 34 and beneath an adjustable trimming-plate 62, the fuel falling from the rear edge 36 of the plate 34 on to a lower plate 40 where it is fed by the lower run of the scrapers towards the furnace. The forward edge of plate 40 is adjustable in position by screw-and-nut means 50 acting on the plate 40. A rotary projector 68 disposed below the forward edge of plate 40 is driven continuously within a housing 74 which is removable for cleaning. Specification 870,472 is referred to.
