Abstract

894,675. Revetments for sub-aqueous surfaces. STAAT DE NEDERLANDEN. Aug. 25, 1958 [Aug. 24, 1957; Aug. 29, 1957], No. 27259 /58. Class 68(2). A protective lining for under-water surfaces comprises a fabric woven of plastics threads. The fabric is formed into tubes 1 which are filled with sand or soil 3 and laid on the surface to be protected (Fig. 2A). Alternatively the tubes may be inter-connected by webs 2 (Fig. 2B) of the fabric, to form a continuous lining, or may be connected in pairs (Fig. 2C) and laid as shown in Figs. 5 and 6. A method of laying a continuous lining is described in which the tubular members are arranged in rows and layers on a vehicle which then moves in the desired direction and the lining is pulled off due to the movement of the vehicle. In a modification (Fig. 8) the lining comprises a tubular part connected to the centre strip of a fabric web and having a plurality of side branches communicating freely with the inner space of the tubular part and tapering off into the fabric web at a distance from the centre thereof.
