Abstract

894,067. Facing tiles. HOWLETT, R. A., and GILES, L. R. Nov. 8, 1960 [Nov. 12, 1959], No. 38473/59. Class 87(1) [Also in Group VIII] A wall or ceiling tile comprises a rigid layer 1 of plasterbo ard, hardboard, or asbestos board covered with a flexible layer 2 of cardboard or plastic sheeting which overhangs the layer 1 on all four sides and which on two opposite sides is provided with staggered fixing tabs 8, 9. The layer 1 may be backed with aluminium foil 11 and the tile may be decorated or faced with paper, plastic sheeting or fabric 10. When the tiles are secured to a surface the tabs interlock and each tab is covered by an adjacent tile, the tabs 8 being nailed or stapled, and the tabs at the perimeter of the surface being held by a metal covering strip. The overhanging portions 4, 5 on the other two sides are bent down between adjacent tiles as described in the Specification 894,066.
