Abstract
883,526. Air supply for combustion. HATTERSLEY BROS. Ltd. Jan. 30, 1958 [Oct. 30, 1956], No. 33049/56. Class 126 In a fireplace housing a sunken ash pit supporting an ash pan and a grate carrier frame, a number of alternative air inlets near the bottom of the ash pit communicate with the underside of grate through outlets at or near the top of the ash pit, and a plate spaced from one end of the ash pit forms an air inlet chamber extending the height of the pit. Air inlets 5, one or more of which may he closed by plugs 7, lead to a chamber formed between an end wall of the ash pit and a plate 3 extending across it. Openings 8 controlled by a sliding damper 9 allow air to pass to the underside of the grate. A lug 11 extending upwardly from the plate 9 engages a handle 10 which lies close above the upper surface of the hearth, the different heights of hearth being catered for by the loose fit of the handle 10 over the lug 11.
