Abstract

Uranium is produced by continuously introducing uranium hexafluoride vapour and fluid sodium into a reaction chamber maintained at a temperature above the melting point of uranium and continuously withdrawing the resultant liquid uranium and liquid sodium fluoride separately from the chamber. Preferably the chamber is maintained at 1130-1200 DEG C. and the sodium introduced in the liquid state and in excess of the stoichiometric proportion.
