Abstract
Polymers, particularly of ethylene, produced by the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbons in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst system, are treated with an active hydrogen compound and then the finely-divided polymer is fluidized by passing a stream of hot air and/or steam at a fluidizing rate upwards through the polymer mass. Specified active hydrogen compounds are water and aliphatic alcohols, e.g. isopropanol. The polymer is preferably fluidized with hot air at a rate of o,15 to 0,3 linear feet per second at 100-110 DEG C. for 10 to 15 minutes or with steam at 0,20 to 0,25 linear feet per second at 100-110 DEG C. for 5 to 10 minutes and is preferably still wet with the vehicle used in its polymerization.
