Abstract
A composition for growth-resistant underwater coatings contains an ammonium or amine salt of a chlorinated dihydroxy-diphenyl. Suitable salts are those of ethylene diamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, methylamine, dimethylamine, triethylamine, hydroxylamine, hydrazine, piperidine, pydridine, benzylamine, stearylamine, and tetraethyl ammonium. Examples are given of metal plates coated with layers of chlorinated rubber (of which the priming coat may also contain minium), and protective coatings containing hardened rosin, alkyl resin containing linseed oil, mixed naphthenates, zinc oxide, and the triethylene tetramine salt of tetrachlorodihydroxy-diphenyl; one such coating also contains cyclo-rubber.ALSO:An anti-fouling paint for ships' bottoms comprises hardened rosin, linseed-oil-modified alkyl resin, cobalt, lead and manganese naphthenates, zinc oxide, the triethylene tetramine salt of tetrachloro-dihydroxy-diphenyl, white spirit and, optionally, cyclorubber. The salts of chlorinated dihydroxy diphenyls in general with diethylene triamine, ethylene diamine, methylamine, dimethylamine, triethylamine, hydroxylamine, hydrazine, piperidine, pyridine, benzylamine, stearylamine and tetraethyl ammonium are also mentioned.
