Abstract
889,018. Coating by vapour deposition. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 13, 1958 [May 24, 1957], No. 16569/57. Class 82(2). [Also in Groups XI and XXII] The Provisional Specification describes the device shown for evaporating metals in which a tungsten wire 23 manipulated through a bellows 24 is used to initiate an arc between water-cooled electrodes 21, 22 both made of the metal to be evaporated. The cathode 22 may be conical as shown or spherical and a uniform stabilizing magnetic field (see Group XI) is produced by a permanent magnet system 19 placed outside the vacuum chamber 20. Vapour from the discharge region migrates through a side tube 25 into a deposition chamber.
