Abstract

A process of producing shaped asbestos-cement articles by filtration of an aqueous slurry comprising absestos fibres and hydraulic cement dispersed in water is characterized by adding to the slurry prior to its filtration between about 0,005 and 0,2% by weight, based upon the dry weight of the dispersed solids in the slurry, of a water-soluble, high-molecular-weight polymer of an amide of the formula: <FORM:0887997/I/1> wherein R1 is hydrogen or a methyl radical, and R2 and R3 are hydrogen, an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a hydroxyalkyl radical containing from 1 to 4 atoms. A conventional plant for pipe-making is specifically described, and constructional boards are referred to. The polymer is preferably added as a 0.1 to 1% by weight aqueous solution.
