Abstract

884,308. Machines for washing milk cans. SCHOLTEN, G. Dec. 16, 1958 [Dec. 21, 1957; April 2, 1958], No. 40560/58. Class 138 (1). A machine for cleaning milk cans comprises a casing 2 provided with rollers 19 for supporting a milk can 14, rotary brushes, 6, 3, 4 for cleaning the interior and exterior of the can 14, respectively, and a pipe 18 for feeding water into the interior of the can 14. The brushes 3, 4 are rotated by a motor 11, through a belt and pulley drive. After cleaning by the brushes 3, 4 the can 14 is inverted and placed on a support 25 so arranged that the weight of the can opens a valve 23 permitting water to discharge from the supply pipe 18 through a nozzle 24 to flush the can. The pipe 18 may be connected to a container of disinfectant which is drawn into the water being sprayed. In a further construction the rotary shaft carrying the brush 3 is hollow and perforated for the passage of water into the can from the supply pipe 18.
