A wire-straightening device of the kind in which wire is led over two rollers, spaced apart in the direction of movement of the wire, a third, or deflecting, roller being movably mounted to engage the wire between the other two rollers, is characterized in that all the rollers are duplicated, the wire passing between the rollers of each pair, and the deflecting rollers are mounted on a carrier member movable in a direction perpendicular to the direction of travel of the wire to permit the deflection applied to the wire to be varied and reversed. Wire from a reel 31 is led over a guide 32, between retaining-members 33 thereon, to a straightening-device including a body part 10 fixed to the top of a wire stitching-machine 11. On an upper face 12 of the body 10 are mounted an upper pair of rollers 14, 15, the roller 14 being circumferentially grooved, and a lower pair of rollers 14, 15. Between these pairs of rollers a slide 17, in a transverse groove 16 in the face 12, carries spaced deflecting rollers 18. The slide 17, see Fig. 2 (not shown), is adjusted by a screw 22 to a position dependent on the set curvature of the wire it has to counteract. To facilitate insertion of the wire the rollers 15 are movable axially on grooved spindles 25, Fig. 3. A lower face 13 of the body 10, perpendicular to the face 12, also carries straightening rollers 14 15, 18.
