Abstract
872,799. Saws. JONES, B. A. March 28, 1960 [June 10, 1959], No. 19816/59. Class 61. A tool for grooving or slotting wood or other rigid material comprises twin flexible saw blades 13 mounted in a holder 11 and secured side by side at or adjacent both ends thereof and having their intermediate portion bowed outwardly by an interposed member 28 whose width is dependent upon that of the groove or slot to be cut. The channel shaped holder 11 has a handle 12 comprising a longitudinally split tubular member having juxtaposed inturned tongues 18 which are passed through a longitudinal slot in the back of the holder and located by de-forming their edges at 20. A rubber or like sleeve 16 is applied to the handle. The blades are located in the holder 11 by a metal strap 21, the outer ends of the blades being secured together by engagement in a channel section clip 23. The member 28 comprises a rectangular block which provides different spacings of the blades according as its thickness, breadth or length is utilised. The block 28 is carried by a rod 24 pivoted at 25 to the extremity of the blades. The saw teeth at the clamped portions of the blades may be ground flush with the inner surfaces of the blades. In a modification a second pair of blades are arranged externally or internally of the first pair so as to cut in a direction oppositely thereto. The cutting unit can be mechanically operated by the reciprocating frame of a machine hack saw.
