Abstract

871,247. Web-formation in paper-making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Sept. 19, 1957 [Sept. 26, 1956], No. 29557/57. Class 96. In a paper-making machine wherein pulp is supplied at 14 to a wire-cloth at the upper quadrant of a roll 12 which is partly enclosed in a suction casing 19 exhausted at 20, upper parts 19d and 19e of the casing 19 are pivoted at 21 and 22, respectively and are spaced away from the wire-cloth 11 so that air &c. may flow in the direction of the arrow A to prevent water being thrown off the cylinder mould and against the wire-cloth 11 and web W. The web W, which may be a ply of a multiple-ply paper &c. is picked up by a felt F with the aid of a plain roll or a suction roll 18. The wire-cloth passes through a vacuum seal 17. In modifications, the suction roll 18 is positioned above the mould 12 &c., and air &c. may be blown into the gap between the wire-cloth 11 and the top 19e of the casing 19.
