Abstract

870,234. Induction machines. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO. Ltd. Jan. 8, 1960 [Feb. 10, 1959], No. 4697/59. Class 35. In a tachometric signal generator comprising a stator having windings 1, 2 in quadrature and a conductivecylinder rotor 4 which varies, by its speed of rotation, the coupling between the windings, one component of the coupling at zero speed is reduced, ideally to nothing, by inducing in one winding a current of appropriate phase and magnitude. The windings comprise energizing and signal coils respectively, and the correcting current is induced in the latter by a stationary but angularly adjustable cylinder 8 which comprises two short-circuited turns. These may be formed by apertures in an otherwise conducting cylinder, or they may be conducting turns " printed " or otherwise arranged on an insulating one; alternatively the cylinder may be replaced by conducting, discontinuous rings. Preferably the cylinder or rings are carried by a member 6 of magnetic material which has a flat 7 to produce asymmetry of the magnetic field so that, by suitable positioning, the other component of the coupling at zero speed (i.e. that in phase with the energizing winding) is also reduced.
