Abstract

877,842. Photographic vesicular materials. KALVAR CORPORATION. Dec. 11, 1959, No. 42300/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2) A film of normally hydrophilic colloid containing a photolytic compound capable of forming light-scattering centres on exposure and development contains also a chrome carboxylic acid complex of Werner type. Records made therefrom by exposure and heat-development show improved durability resulting, it is believed, from a curing effect of the complex on the colloid. Preferably, a proportion of partially condensed urea-formaldehyde resin is included in the hydrophilic colloid. Seven examples use p-dimethylamino-benzene-diazonium zinc chloride as photolytic compound, thus in Example 1 gelatin solution is adjusted to pH 2.5, glycerine, the diazo sensitizer and stearato chromic chloride dissolved in isopropanol are added and the solution coated on cellulose acetate film and dried; and the film may be used for making original records or for contact or projection copying, for instance contact copying of microfilm records; and developed by heating for 3 or 4 seconds preferably with a further exposure after cooling and storage for an hour to allow escape of gas released in the re-exposure. Examples II, III and IV are similar, describing only the addition of urea-formaldehyde resin, the omission of glycerin and the addition of colloidal silica to the solution of Example I. Example V uses polyvinyl alcohol as colloid, Example VI laurylato or propionato chromic chloride in place of the stearato compound; and Example VII is directed to a comparison in which chrome alum replaces the Werner complex and also one in which urea -formaldehyde is used without such complex. Other diazo compounds and supports for the sensitive films are referred to, and the use of ferric ammonium citrate as photolytic compound is indicated.
