Abstract
877,467. Concrete structures. CONCRETE Ltd. Jan. 1, 1960 [Jan. 1, 1959], No. 58/59. Class 20(4) A precast concrete beam, 15, Fig. 1, has one or more metal members 14 projecting from its end which bear upon a metal member 12 extending laterally from an upstanding concrete element 13 such as a concrete column, the overlying members 14, 12 being encased in a concrete in-filling between the beam 15 and element 13. In Fig. 1 the member 12 is of inverted T-section and two spaced members 14 bear upon the horizontal flanges of the member 12 on opposite sides of the web which thereby limits lateral movement of the beam. After adjustment of the position of the beam, the members 12, 14 may be bolted or welded together. The members 12, 14 may each comprise an angle iron Fig. 3 (not shown) which are brought into nesting relationship when the beam is positioned. The angle irons may be associated with screw-adjustment means serving to adjust the longitudinal position of the beam, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). A reinforcing element 34, Fig. 6, in the column may be connected to a continuity steel element 39 which is cast into the in-situ concrete 32 of the floor, and this continuity steel element may be screw threaded at its end which is passed through an aperture in a plate 31 cast into the beam, a pair of nuts 135 being provided on the screwed portion to serve for the longitudinal adjustment of the position of the beam.
