Abstract
875,818. Automatic control systems. UNILEVER Ltd. July 2, 1958 [July 22, 1957], No. 23120/57. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group V] Soap or other plastic material is fed along a path which is not straight, from a feed point to the nip of a driven pair of rollers, for impressing the surface thereof, and the roller speed is controlled relatively to the speed of the material at the feed point so that a displacement from said path causes a variation in the roller speed that eliminates the displacement. A soap bar 11 is extruded from a plodder 2 on to a table 3 to pass between guide rollers 4, 4<SP>1</SP> to the nip between impressing rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, and thence between cam-operated wire cutters 8, 8<SP>1</SP>. The axis of the extruder 2 is offset relatively to the aligned nips of the rollers 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and 5, 5<SP>1</SP> so that a variation in the speed of extrusion relatively to the speed of the rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> displaces the bar 1 against either of two lugs 9, 9<SP>1</SP> carried by a pivoted bar 10a to rotate the latter in either of two directions. The rotation of the bar 10a actuates a transmitter-repeater means 10b to adjust the speed of a thyratron-controlled variable-speed motor driving the rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> to increase or decrease the speed of the latter as the extrusion speed increases or decreases. The drives of the rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and of the cutters 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are coupled directly together. Ink may be applied to the impressing roller 5 by a roller 7.
