Abstract
867,727. Liquid fuel burners. SWINNEY BROS. Ltd. Dec. 14, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958], No. 40312/58: Class 75(1). An oil burner comprises an oil tube 5, an outer air tube 1 and an inner air tube 7 adapted to be moved longitudinally to open and close an inner annular gap 13 for primary air between a nozzle 8 on the inner tube 7 and a nozzle 6 on the oil tube 5 and an outer annular gap 12 for secondary air between nozzle 8 and a nozzle 3 on the outer air tube 1. The secondary air is swirled by a vane ring 9 and the primary air is swirled by a vane ring 11. The inner air tube 7 is moved longitudinally by means of a lever 17 attached to a rotatable member 16 having a pin 15 engaged in a helical slot 14 in the inner air tube. Rotation of the inner air tube is prevented by an extension 18 thereon projecting into a hole 19 in a flange 20 on the body 4 of a metering oil valve attached to the outer air tube 1. The oil valve comprises a cylindrical spindle 21 having a V groove 22 adapted to co-operate with a seat 23. The valve spindle 21 extends rearwardly through an oil seal to terminate in a fork end 26 carrying a swivel pin 34 having a hole engaged by a lever 30 pivoted at its remote end to a fulcrum pin 32 adjustable in two planes. The lever 30 is pin jointed at 29 to link rods 28 which are pin jointed at 27 to the extension 18 of the inner air tube so that movement of the inner air tube to open the annular gaps 13, 12 for primary and secondary air also opens the oil valve. The fulcrum pin 32 is adjustably clamped by two nuts 38 to a clamping block 37; adjustment of the fulcrum pin alters the oil flow for any particular setting of the inner air tube. The clamping block 37 has a hole through which passes a vertical stud extending from the valve body and the block is clamped in adjusted position thereon by two lock nuts; adjustment of the clamping block 37 alters the length of the stroke of the oil valve. Before reaching the metering valve the oil passes through an annular space 46 surrounding the valve body 4 and through a shut off valve 48. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the coupling between the inner air tube 7 and the metering oil valve 21 comprises a fulcrum block 60 disposed between parallel side faces in the valve body 4. The block is adjusted vertically and horizontally by means of crank pins engaging horizontal and vertical slots 62, 63 in the block. To prevent rotation of the fulcrum block a pin 66 extends from a guide block 67 into a hole in the fulcrum block, the guide block being disposed in a recess allowing movement at right angles to the metering valve. The lever 69 engages in a slot in the spindle of the valve and the movement of the inner air tube is transmitted to the lever 69 by a push rod 71. The linkage is spring loaded by a spring 73 around the metering valve 21. Specification 819,221 is referred to.
