[Also in Group V] The liquid component of a germanium slurry is separated by vacuum filtration in apparatus which comprises a block 11 of graphite or metal having hollow spaces 12 and located in a suction filter 9 having its sieve-like floor covered with filter paper 10. The suction filter is located by stopper 6 in filtering flask 7, the germanium slurry is poured into hollows 12, and the flask is evacuated. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown), the suction filter is replaced by a glass tube lined with filter paper, sealed at its upper end with paraffin wax, and containing a glass frit.
