Abstract
A mix for making a moulding die comprises 95 parts of Swedish iron sponge powder and 5 parts of electrolytic copper powder mixed with 10 parts of aqueous sodium silicate solution of S.G. 1.56 and molar ratio Na2O : SiO2 of 1 : 2.05 2 parts by weight of molybdenum disulphide may be added, and the copper powder may be omitted. The mixture is hardened by CO2 gas and may then be dried by heating and if desired fired to sinter the metal particles. Specification 866,373 is referred to.ALSO:A foundry mould or moulding die has at least a self-sustaining p portion thereof made from a moulding material comprising a mixture of metal powder or powders and aqueous sodium silicate solution, said self-sustaining portion forming the moulding surface and having been hardened by the removal of water from the sodium silicate solution or by chemical action on the sodium silicate solution. The metal powder may be a mixture of Swedish sponge iron and copper, and some molybdenum disulphide may be included. The binder may be hardened by heating or CO2 gas, and the mould may be fired to sinter the metal particles Specification 866,373 is referred to.
