Abstract
865,775. Protective cut-out arrangements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 2, 1959 [June 9, 1958], No. 18361/58. Class 38 (5). In a balanced-voltage feeder protection system having comparator means adjacent each end of a protected section and arranged to be operated in dependence upon the current flowing in a closed loop pilot circuit and to be restrained against operation in dependence on the resultant voltage across the pilot circuit in the manner of an impedance relay having a substantially circular resistance/reactance characteristic, each comparator means includes an impedance arranged so that when the power flow is from the adjacent end, the current to which a comparator means is responsive is the sum of the currents flowing round the closed loop and through the impedances so as to offset the characteristic along the resistance axis to reduce the response of the comparator means to apparent capacitive impedance of the pilot circuit. In Fig. 8 each comparator means comprises a relay having an operating winding 7 and a restraining winding 12 which acts as the impedance. In Fig. 11 each comparator means comprises a relay having its single winding 24 wired in a comparator circuit comprising full wave rectifiers 28, 29, the rectifier 28 being connected in series with the pilot circuit and the rectifier 29 being connected to the secondary winding 30 of a transformer having its primary winding 33 connected across the pilot circuit as shown and constituting the impedance referred to above. A non-linear resistance 15 reduces the reach of the relay under heavy throughfault conditions. Reference is also made to the use of a transistorised comparator.
