Abstract

853,694. Two-part couplings. BELLING & LEE Ltd. July 11, 1958 [Aug. 2, 1957], No. 24499/57. Class 38(1) A printed circuit connector has contacts each consisting of a spigot 1 having a tapered bore 7 and an integral pin 2 which is detachably engaged by a triangular, resilient socket 10 provided with an integral, curved, spring- blade contact 12. Pairs of contacts are mounted in opposed relationship in a channel-shaped insulating support as shown in Figs. 2 and 7. The support is formed in two parts, an apertured base-part 18 and a slotted wall-part 19, the contacts being secured in apertures in part 18 by swaging over one face of said part a portion 29 of the pin 2 above a flange 4 abutting the opposite face of part 18. When the support parts are bolted together, the contacts 12 lie in recesses on either side of a slot 20 in part 19 whereby they are able to contact opposite sides of a printed circuit panel 49 inserted in said slot. Connection to the spigots is effected by tapered pins 51 and a gap 36 between the walls of part 19 and the base allows moisture to drain away. In a modification, the blade contacts 12 extend from the lower ends of sockets 10 instead of as shown in Fig. 1. When it is desired to connect a pair of contacts together, a strap 8 may be clipped over the pins 2.
