Abstract
852,457. Metal-heating furnaces. SQUIRE, L. E. March 11, 1959, No. 8347/59. Class 51(2). A furnace for brazing metallic components comprises a hearth 1 having a seal 7 with a bell chamber 3, an annular insulating chamber 14 containing spaced metallic screens 30, 32, and a bottom insulating chamber 13 with spaced metallic screens 18 and forming a support for a work-receiving platform 40 carrying heating elements 12. The hearth 1, chamber 14 and chamber 13 are respectively provided with valve-controlled pipes 8 and 9, 35, 36 and 37, and 20 and 21, which pipes may be connected to a vacuum pump or used to supply inert gas. A layer of insulating material may be disposed beyond the outermost metal screen in the insulating chambers 13 and 14. The screens may be made of aluminium, molybdenum or tungsten. The treated material may be cooled by circulating inert gas through the treatment chamber or by circulating air through the insulating chambers 13 and 14.
