Abstract
In the separation of hydrocarbons using a molecular sieve by the process of the parent Specification wherein adsorbed hydrocarbons are desorbed by an olefine, a relatively constant ratio between feed residence time and mass transfer time is maintained as the sieve increases in age; this is achieved by (a) increasing the adsorption temperature, (b) increasing the length of feed cycle without increasing the amount fed or (c) increasing the length of desorption cycle while maintaining the feed rate of desorbing material constant, or by a combination of such methods. At intervals the sieve is regenerated by heating to 650-850 DEG F. while purging with an inert gas or reducing the pressure to below 100 mm. At longer intervals the sieve is further regenerated by heating to 500-1000 DEG F. in the presence of an oxygen-containing gas; this is preferably done in three stages, first heating and purging with a hot inert gas secondly treating with a gas containing 0,2-10% oxygen and lastly with air. Specifications 820,225 and 821,020 are referred to.
