Abstract

856,537. Lawn aerating devices. BROADBENT & CO. (ROCHDALE) Ltd. July 22, 1959 [July 25, 1958], No. 23958/58. Class 6(2). A hand tool for aerating lawns comprises tubes b each formed with a cutting edge b<SP>1</SP> at its lower end and in communication at its upper end with a receptacle A for receiving cores of soil ejected from the tubes. The tubes are pressed into the ground by exerting pressure on a handle A<SP>1</SP> fixed to the receptacle, and enter the ground against the action of springs c which at their lower ends engage lugs c<SP>1</SP> on a plate C slidably fitted over the lower ends of the tubes b. The plate C serves to prevent the ground surface from lifting during the operation of the device.
