Abstract
A method of producing lacquered aluminium alloy sheets comprises hardening aluminium alloy sheets containing not more than 1.5% of one or more of the elements Mg, Si, Zr, Cr, Mn, or Ti, by heating to the solution temperature, quenching and ageing, cold rolling to a thickness of one half or less of the original thickness, coating the sheet with lacquer and heating to between 120 DEG C. and 240 DEG C. to bake the lacquer and strengthen the sheet. The sheet may be in the form of a continuous strip and the cold rolling may reduce the thickness 1/3 to 1/5 of its original value. The lacquer may be an epoxy or ethoxylin resin or a vinyl chloride copolymer base. The alloying constituents may be 0.3-0.7% Mg and 0.3 to 0.7% Si, the remainder being Al.
