A centrifugal fertiliser distributer comprises a varied spindle 40 provided with a cone shaped central spreader 43 and an annular shaped valve 44 arranged to tilt about a point of contact with the spreader so that there will be no effective opening in an arc extending to either side of the contact point. As shown the valve is held in contact with the spreader 43 by means of a spring 77 and is pivoted to a lever 73 which is pivoted into pin 74 and pivotally connected to a link 72. A cam mechanism is mounted in a casing 71 and is operated by a lever 70 to move the link 72. Movement of the lever in one direction opens the valve 44. A further movement of the lever 70 in the same direction closes the valve. A screw in the casing adjusts the effective length of movement of the link 72 and thus adjusts the open position of the valve. The spinner 40 is connected to a vertical tube driven by gearing from a tractor power shaft and a shaft rotates inside the tube and is connected to agitators 45, 46 which are also driven from the tractor power shaft through gearing so arranged that the agitators rotate at a slower speed than the spinner. The agitators may also rotate in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the spinner. The drive from the tractor power shaft comprises a socket 122 fitting over the shaft 104 and connected to a telescopic shaft 124, 125 through rubber connectors 123 126. The socket 122 is removed from the shaft 104 by compressing a spring 127. The machine is connected to a three point linkage in the tractor and a special upper link 106 is provided having a cross-piece 111 which co-operates with a hook 110 on a link 109 to hold the machine in the working position. A member 128a is provided with a slot which engages the socket 122 so that the drive must be disconnected before lowering the machine to the ground where it is supported on feet 108. A removable spike 29 is mounted on a member 28 in the mouth of the hopper and is used for opening fertiliser bags. In a modification the machine is mounted on ground wheels which drive the spinner 40 and agitators 45, 46.
