Abstract

Epoxyethyl benzenes are produced by reducing chloracetyl benzenes with aluminium isopropylate and converting the chlorohydrin obtained into the epoxide by treatment with alkali or alkaline earth lyes in aqueous or alcoholic solution. An example describes the preparation of 1,3,5-tri-(epoxyethyl) benzene. Epoxyethyl benzene and 1,3-or 1,4-di-(epoxyethyl) benzene are similarly obtained. The epoxy compounds may be used for the stabilization of polyvinyl chloride and chlorinated rubber.
