Abstract

842,705. Making perforating rollers; drilling. HELMERT, W. July 20, 1956 [July 21, 1955], No. 22572/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (3). [Also in Group VIII] A process for producing accurately co-operating pin-and-pin-hole rollers of a perforating mechanism is characterized in that holes at the required pitch division for the pins and pin holes of the pin roller and the pin-hole roller are formed in each case in a flexible metal band, consisting of one or more pieces, or a hollow cylindrical metal shell, consisting of one or more pieces, separate from the rollers. before the application of the metal band or shell on a roller, the metal bands or shells then being arranged opposite one another on the rollers in such a way that pins inserted in the holes of one roller co-operate accurately with the holes of the other roller, after which the metal bands or shells are fixed in the adjusted position on their rollers. When metal bands are used, these are preferably provided with holes at the required pitch division while in a plane position, and are then each laid round a base body of a roller acting as a pin roller or a pin-hole roller. The band on the pin roller is fixed in position and is then used as a template for the production of bores in the base body to provide a mounting for the pins of the pin roller. When metal shells are used, the holes are formed by drilling. As shown, hollow metal shells 41, 42 to be drilled with holes longitudinally and circumferentially thereof are mounted on a shaft 36, in turn mounted on a table 28 which is movable parallel to the shaft 36. The movement of the table 28 and the circumferential movement of the shaft 36 about its axis, are determined by perforated indexing bands 30, 44, provided respectively on the table and on a disc 43 mounted on the shaft and co-operable with index pins 33, 46 on fixed holders 32, 45 respectively. The table runs on balls or rollers 27, Fig. 4, embedded in guides 25, 26.
