A valve-controlled nursing bottle 1 comprises a resilient nipple 4 having a feeding opening 10, a charging opening 6, and an annular flange 11, and a spoolshaped valve 13 one flange of which has one or more openings, e.g. notches 18, extending radially inwards a greater distance than the inner edge of flange 11. The nipple may be of rubber or silicone rubber, and the valve of polythene or aluminium. The surface 141 of the valve is dished to ensure uniform seating of the valve on flange 11 when pressure is exerted on the nipple.
