Abstract

832,884. Pallets for handling loads. HOLZWERKE ZAPFENDORF G.m.b.H. April 8, 1958 [April 6, 1957], No. 10950/58. Class 78 (4). The spacing blocks 1, 2 of a pallet are formed of wood shavings bonded with a synthetic resin and having a specific gravity of at least 0.9. The block may have a central aperture receiving a flanged metal sleeve 3 by which the block is secured to the upper and lower decks and which can accommodate a tiering post. Alternatively the block may be formed, as shown at 2, with a cylindrical cavity 7, having a portion 8 of reduced diameter through which passes a bolt 6. The upper and lower decks of the pallet illustrated are formed of wooden boards 4. Shavings resulting from sawing, turning, planing or grinding may be employed and may be sieved into fractions before use. The resin may be added in the form of an aqueous solution and the composition dried at a temperature below the hardening temperature of the resin and subsequently pressed, at a higher temperature, at a pressure over 50 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>. The process may be as described in Specification 740,242. Water-soluble dyestuff may be added to the synthetic resin solutions.
