Abstract

830,542. High voltage switches; snap-action switches; switch cases; operating members for switches; arcing preventing in switches. S. & C. ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 7, 1957 [March 6, 1956], No. 555/57. Class 38 (5). In a mechanism for opening under load a high-voltage isolating device and comprising an auxiliary circuit interrupter arrangement similar to those of Specifications 825,913 and 830,541, the rigid conductor 56, which is connected to the arcing contact 68 is rotatably mounted in the top cap 51 so that random rotation can occur to turn the contact 68 with respect to the co-operating contact 110 and change the contact points at which arcing commences. The rod 56 is screwed into a nut 54 which is rotatable in a boss 52 of the top cap, a locking screw 59 and a lock-nut 57 being provided. The Specification also describes arrangements in which the spring biasing of the keeper 43 and universal joint 36 is effected by spring plungers 152 and 120 respectively.
