830,427. Medicament inhalers. RIKER LABORATORIES Inc. March 20, 1957 [March 21, 1956; March 5, 1957], No. 9125/57. Class 81 (2). [Also in Groups XVIII and XXVIII] A device for spraying inhalant into the mouth comprises a cap for fitting over the head of a pressurized aerosol container and having a delivery tube by means of which the aerosol is directed into the mouth. The device is preferably used with a container 10 having a plunger type metering valve in which a recess 21 in the plunger 20 normally permits the contained medicament to pass into the interior of a cylindrical chamber 11 but, when the plunger is depressed, this recess is sealed by a gasket 14 and the pressurized liquid passes out through an orifice 23 and axial duct 24. The cap is preferably made of slightly flexible synthetic resin and has a depending skirt 37, which fits over the head of the container, while the upper end of the plunger 20 is seated in an internal boss, so that medicament passes through a jet 29, preferably of nylon, into the discharge tube 32. Holes 33, 34 are formed to allow the user to inhale while the medicament is being dispensed. In a modification the skirt is spaced slightly from the head of the container to form an alternative entrance for inhaled air, and the separate jet nozzle is not used. In each case the valve is opened by pressure on the upper part of the device. Specification 830,426 is referred to.
