Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXV] A device for opening and closing windows and holding them open comprises an inflatable, flexible-walled rubber ball 10 having an aperture the edge of which is clamped between a flange on one end of a sleeve 11 and a nut 12 threaded therein, the sleeve 11, extending through a hole in a crossbar 22 of a fixed window frame 20, being secured in position by a lock-nut 23. A flexible rubber tube 13 connects the sleeve 11 to a branch connector 14 one arm of which is joined by a flexible rubber tube 15 to a small hand pump 16 incorporating a non-return delivery valve and the other arm is connected, by a flexible tube 17 to an air-release valve 18. The ball 10 is situated between hard board panels 24, 25 mounted respectively on a pivotal window frame 21 and the fixed frame 20. If the ball 10 is not sufficiently resilient to ensure unassisted gentle closing of the window the air-release valve may be provided with a restriction for reducing the rate of escape of air from it when opened. The valve 18 may be automatically operated by locking it, at 28, to the back of a domestic alarm clock so that the alarm winding handle 29 will rotate to release the plunger 27 of the valve at a predetermined time. The embodiment shown may be adapted to control a battery of windows, e.g. in a greenhouse, the tube 13, leading from each ball 10, being taken to a single pump, or source of compressed air, and the branch from the main air line being taken to a single air-release valve.
