Abstract
839,048. Furnace electrode holders. ELEKTROKEMISK A.S. July 15, 1957, No. 22404/57. Class 39(3) A furnace electrode holder for a continuous self baking electrode includes water-cooled contact clamps each of which makes electrical contact with the electrode over only a part of its total inner surface facing the electrode. As shown, Fig. 1, each clamp 1 has an inner face comprising a series of spaced vertical contact strips 2, e.g. of copper, which may be integral with the main clamp body or separately welded thereto, separated by grooves 3 filled with ceramic material. The strips may be widened at their lower portions so as to abut. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, each clamp has a lower electrical contact surface 5 and an upper surface 6 having a ceramic coating. The ceramic material may be covered with a metal sheet or the like insulated from the current-carrying part of the clamp.
