Abstract
837,100. Screw propellers. LOISEAU, C. June 25, 1956 [June 27, 1955], No. 19652/56. Class 14. In a weed-repelling propeller having a hub and helical blades, all sections of the active face of each blade are concave as at C, Fig. 2, and offer within a portion of the planes adjacent the trailing edge the form of curves of which the tangent T at any point A of a segment of the curve is located on the left side of an observer lying along the axis O and facing the point, the sections being taken as rotating in the positive direction. The weed repelling faces are at the rear 3, Fig. 4, of the propeller 1 and the blades are of such length that the weeds are brought into contact with them and since a part of the curvature of the active face is such that it produces a centrifugal component AG in a plane tangential to the face, the water responding to this carries weeds &c. outwards away from the propeller. To achieve this the part is formed in accordance with the equation F (r, a, z) = O where r, a are polar coordinates in a plane perpendicular to the axis z when the equation fulfils the condition that r decreases as z increases.
