Abstract
820,814. Therapeutic radiation apparatus. UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOUNDATION. Dec. 24, 1956 [Dec. 22, 1955; July 20, 1956], No. 39241/56. Class 81 (2). A supersonic treatment apparatus comprises a number of generating units, each having an oscillator and focusing means, with means for adjusting the unit axially and angularly. A piezo-electric crystal 22 is backed by a metal block 30 to which electrical power is conducted through an electrode 56 and its output is focused by a polystyrene lens 40. The assembly is mounted in a sleeve 62, so as to be longitudinally adjustable, by a nut 76, relative to its mounting 20 and it is displaceable angularly by screws 92, while being supported by a spring 90. Preferably, four such assemblies are mounted on a common support and are directed towards a desired common point. With such an arrangement the individual generators are adjusted for correct phase relationship by longitudinal adjustment by means of the nuts 76.
