Abstract
829,856. Inductors. MAGNETIC HEATING CORPORATION. Feb. 14, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 4943/58. Class 38 (2). A variable inductor for use in controlling a high frequency circuit comprises a coil 10 of one or more turns and a core 15 which moves axially of the coil and comprises a high conductivity non-magnetic part 17 and an insulating chamber 18 containing non-conductive magnetic material cooled by fluid circulated through the chamber. The magnetic material may comprise rods 20 of sintered oxide or powdered material such as carbonyl iron mixed with insulating material. The non-magnetic part 17 may be a cylinder of copper through passages in which a cooling fluid, e.g. water in pipes 23, 24 passes to and from the chamber 18. The coil 10 is a rectangular block of metal with a circular hole 11 through which the core passes, and a slot 12 so that it becomes a single turn. The inductor may be connected in series or parallel with a heating coil (Figs. 3, 4, 5, not shown).
