Abstract
Alloys comprise 10 to 60% Al, the balance being at least one metal of Groups IVA, VA and VIA of the Periodic Table and incidental impurities including less than 0.20% oxygen. They are produced with this low oxygen content by forming a molten bath containing the Al and the metal(s) of Group IVA, VA or VIA (i.e. the Ti group, the V group and the Cr group) and introducing an alkaline earth metal. Ca is preferred and may be used in amount 0.25 to 3.0% of the mixture; an inert atmosphere e.g. argon should be maintained.
