Abstract

828,317. Nail driving tools. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. July 25, 1956 [Aug. 19, 1955], No. 22975/56. Class 89(3) A fastener driving tool includes an elongated guiding element 121 having a guiding bore 113 for receiving the fastener 125 and a plunger 116 guided in said bore, the bore 113 being enlarged at the front of the tool by the provision of a tapered counterbore 111 to receive and frictionally hold a rigid washer 129 forming part of the fastener assembly. The plunger 116 is releasably secured in a drive rod 115 telescoping within a tube 102 within which the guiding element 121 is releasably retained. The plunger 116 and guide element 121 are replaceable by parts of different dimensions adapted to receive fasteners of different diameters and/or to adapt the tool to drive fasteners to different depths of penetration. The tube 102 has attached thereto a hand guard 103 and a front platen 105 and is surrounded by an outer tube of rubber. A spring 104 has at one end a detent 110 which engages 'a groove 112 in the rod 115 to releasably retain the rod 115 in its retracted position, and at the other end a detent 106 which can engage one of the grooves 135 in the guiding element 121 to releasably retain the guiding element in forward and retracted positions.
