826,389. Fishing-reels. HAY, G. D. Aug. 22, 1957 [Aug. 30, 1956], No. 26534/56. Class 48. A fishing-reel comprises a spool 10 rotatably mounted on a spindle 11 carried by a back plate 12, a pawl 18 carried by a stud 19 capable of back and forth displacement to bring the pawl into and out of engagement with a ratchet wheel 17 on the spool, a spring 22 urging the pawl to engage the ratchet wheel, and an actuating lever 23 arranged for angular movement about the spindle 11 and provided with a cam 24 adapted to displace the stud 19 so that the pawl is disengaged from the ratchet wheel. The lever 23 is mounted on a bearing formed on the nut 16 for clamping the spindle 11 to the back plate 12. The cam 24 is a rotatable wheel or a radiused projection and projects through an arcuate slot 25 in the back plate 12. The lever 23 may have a plurality of holes adapted to receive a pin supporting the cam 24. The pawl stud 19 is slidable in a slot 20 in a secondary plate 13 spaced from the back plate 12. The spring 22 acting on the pawl is anchored to two pins on the secondary plate and serves to hold the pawl stud in position. A second spring may be mounted on the other side of the secondary plate.
