Abstract
824,429. Depilatories. MARYLAND DEVICES Inc. June 6, 1957 [Jan. 29, 1957], No. 18039/57. Class 81 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] A depilatory preparation comprising an aqueous emulsion of a keratin reducing agent, such as a thioglycerate or thioglycolate salt, is confined in a pressuretight container 1, Fig. 1, having an opening 6 controlled by valve 2, together with an inert propellant gas under pressure, e.g. nitrogen, helium, argon or neon, which is non-reactive to, insoluble in, and a non- solvent for the preparation. The emulsion may contain emulsifying and thickening agents to ensure such a viscosity and thixotropic properties that with a particular rate of expulsion it is expelled as a bubble-free cream and does not " crater " inside the container and allow the gas to escape before substantially all the contents are expelled. In Example 1 a depilatory preparation is a slurry of calcium thioglycolate with calcium hydroxide and strontium hydrate stirred into a cream base comprising emulsifying agents, cetyl alcohol and sodium carbonate. Twelve other examples give various appropriate recipes of depilatories.
