Abstract
812,975. Liquefied gaseous fuel lighters. RONSON PRODUCTS Ltd. March 5, 1957 [March 6, 1956], No 6981/56. Class 75(3) A liquefied gaseous fuelled lighter has an inlet valve and a valve separate and distinct from the inlet valve to enable the lighter fuel chamber to be vented to atmosphere during the filling or refilling of the fuel chamber through the inlet valve. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 a fuel container or cartridge on being connected to an inlet valve 3 moves a part 5 to the left to open the inlet valve and through a plunger 4 moves a spring biased enlarged head 6 to place the fuel chamber 2 in connection with atmosphere through tubes 10 and 12. On removal of the cartridge the connection between tubes 10 and 12 is broken by the head 6 being pressed against a sealing ring 13 by a spring 8. In a modification shown in Fig. 2 a member 14 provided with a transverse hole 15 is rotated when the fuel cartridge is inserted in the inlet valve 3 to place the fuel chamber 2 in connection with atmosphere through tubes 10 and 12. The member 14 is rotated, after the part 17 has been moved to the left by the fuel cartridge, by a square 16 engaging a suitably shaped fork 16a in the part 17. In a further modification shown in Fig. 3 the fuel chamber 2 is connected to atmosphere through a spring biased valve 19 opened by a pivoted lever 24 operated by a member 26 of the inlet valve 3 when a fuel cartridge is connected to the valve 3. In yet a further modification shown in Fig. 4 the fuel chamber 2 is opened to atmosphere through a manually operated dumb-bell shaped valve 27, 28, 29 which valve is normally held closed by a spring 31 with one end 28 bearing against a sealing ring 30. A cover or false bottom 32 may be snapped over the bottom of the lighter. In yet a further modification shown in Figs. 5 and 7 a member 36 pivotally mounted on the lighter bottom normally holds a ball 33, Fig. 7, against a sealing ring 35. When the lighter is to be filled the member 36 is rotated to expose the inlet valve 3 and to release the ball 33 which ball 33 is pressed downwards by a spring 37 onto the sides of a square or similar shaped opening 34.
