Abstract
810,337. Forging. BUJON, R. E. March 4, 1957 [March 19, 1956], No. 7041/57. Class 83(4). A. swaging-machine has a plurality of radiallyacting dies 14, 14a, 14b, 14c, all but one of which may be disconnected from their driving means and locked in an inoperative retracted position. The dies are detachably mounted in dovetail slots 15, Fig. 2 (not shown), in die carriers 3c adjustably connected by threaded rods 7c, for varying their stroke positions, to driving members 4c on eccentrics 5c of shafts 6, 6a, 6b, 6c. The main driving-shaft 6 actuates the non- disconnectible die 14 and is coupled by bevel gearing 11a, 11b, 11c to side shafts 6a, 6c and bottom shaft 6b. Each bevel gear pair may be put into or out of mesh by a fork-shaped wedge 12c engaging a thrust bearing 13c, whereby one or more of the dies 14a, 14b, 14c may be made inoperative and are then locked in their outer dead-centre position by locking-pins 10b. The machine is used for giving a complex profile, Fig. 3 (not shown) to a cold or heated bar which may be of copper, aluminium or their alloys. Specification 666,233 is referred to.
