Abstract
A textile processing apron, e.g. a rubbing apron for a carding machine, comprises a matrix of elastomeric material having dispersed therein rounded particles, e.g. of frangible siliceous material, the textile contacting surface of the apron having been ground or otherwise treated to remove the particles embedded in the outer layer and to leave voids therein. The frangible siliceous particles are preferably hollow spherical particles of fused and expanded clay. The elastomeric material may be a composition of natural rubber or of butadieneacrylic nitrile copolymer, polychloroprene, butadiene-styrene copolymer, or a polysulphide. An apron is described (see Group IX) having a surface layer of a composition comprising (in parts by weight) chloroprene 100, coumarone indene resin 4, hydrated calcium silicate 40, vulcanizing ingredients, and 20 to 150 parts by weight of hollow spherical particles of fused and expanded clay of 0.001 to 0.09 inch diameter. U.S.A. Specification 2,676,892 is referred to.
