[Also in Group XXI] A device for preventing or minimizing water hammer action in pipes comprises a tube a of larger diameter than the associated water pipe and adapted at its ends to be connected in series with the pipe, a partition d at the inlet end of the tube having a nipple e extending into the tube interior and having lateral ports f and a partition g at the outlet end of the tube having a nipple h extending into the interior of the tube and having lateral ports i. On the side of each partition facing the tube interior a cushion k may be provided, the cushion being faced by a resilient disc m. The cushion k and nipples e, h may also be surrounded by soft rubber shrouds n, o. The nipples e, h may be situated on opposite sides of the tube axis and the total area of the passage in the nipple h may be made substantially greater than that of the nipple e.
