Abstract

817,579. Contacting gases with liquids. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. June 18, 1957 [June 22, 1956], No. 19418/56. Class 55 (2). A gas-liquid contact column has a series of spaced trays arranged as shown within the column, each tray having a central perforated area 11 and at one end a ridge 14 and an upwardly curving portion 15 and at the other a ridge 13 and a downwardly curving portion 12, the portions 12 and 15 of adjacent trays cooperating to form liquid downcomers. The trays may be secured in position by welding or brazing and gauze baffles may be arranged beneath and/or above the perforated area of each tray, the baffles above the perforated areas being clear of the liquid thereon, to minimize liquid entrainment.
