817,133. Electrodepositing bright metal coatings. DEHYDAG DEUTSCHE HYDRIERWERKE G.m.b.H. Oct. 27, 1955 [Oct. 28, 1954], No. 30717/55. Addition to 762,257. Class 41. Bright adherent metal coatings, e.g. of copper, silver, zinc, brass, nickel, or cadmium are electrodeposited from baths incorporating as an additive compound an organic sulphonic acid or salt thereof which differs from that of the parent Specification only in that instead of the sulphonic group of the additive compound thereof the water-solubilizing group is one of the following: (1) acid groups other than sulphonic acid groups, suitably as salts or esters with inorganic or organic bases such as sulphuric acid partial ester groups, phosphoric acid ester groups, phosphonic acid groups, or phosphinic or hydrocarbon-substituted phosphinic acid groups; (2) one or more hydroxyl groups, ether-alcohol groups, and polyetheralcohol groups containing not more than 5 ether-alcohol units; (3) amino groups neutralized with acids or quaternary ammonium compounds. Specific additives are disclosed for acid copper. Watts nickel, and cyanide zinc and cadmium baths.
